On Irving between 26th and 27th I spotted this:
The Sunset Palace was not very palatial, in my opinion.
I don't know anything about it. I will check whenever I make that trip to the Main Library to look through old phone books.
It's funny, there are some blue and white tiles right around the edge of the entry to Nomad Cyclery next door. They don't match well with the beige and green tiles. I don't show you a full picture of Nomad's building, but to me they are not similar. However, they were built the same year. The tile is painted over at the "Palace", maybe it was the same as Nomad's.

When I was a kid (born in the 50's) this place was the kitchen and office location for Michael's catering. Michael's banquet hall was located at 30th & Irving - the current location of some sort of Chinese group that dress like nurses (I once asked them what they were about and no one would answer me but I think it is some sort of charity).
The functions at Michael's hall were great diversions for us kids especially on Saturdays when they had weddings. We would all wait around outside for the exit of the bride and groom and the ritual of rice throwing. Someone would always give us some so we could get in on the act. They closed the hall but kept the business running out of the location you photographed for a while.
Thanks for sharing your story about Michaels Hall.
I think I know the building you mean at 30th. I've been meaning to look it up, but can never remember the name when I get home. It was a coupon clearing house in the '90's, when the soccer shop further down was a roller skating store.
