The last business at this service station at Irving and 16th was called "Folk Wisdom". According to City records is was built in 1926. I haven't been able to find what kind of gas station it was originally.
(Edit October 4, 2010 - it was a Mohawk Station. Read Frank Dunnigan's "Streetwise - Irving Insights", and see a photo of the pumps)
I had a lot of fun poking my camera through the fence.
Wonder what kind of flags hung here?
I don't think you will find a mechanic any more:
It is quite "Closed":
I wish I had taken more photos of this wall, but it is all the way in the back. The sign on the left door says "Ladies". It looks like a random wall put up at an angle. I wonder why.

Folk wisdom... Sounds interesting...
Great that they haven't torn it down yet -- I suppose it could be restored into an ice cream parlor or something good like that...
I'm going to have to do a little spooking around this weekend over in the Sunset -- wonder what I'll find...
Best regards, Don.
Mmm....ice cream.
Can't wait to see what you find in the Sunset.
I always thought it was "Volk" Wisdom and it specialized in VW repairs - or maybe I have it confused with somewhere else.
There was another one built in the same style at 10th and Judah.
Anon- it makes sense that it would be Volk Wisdom, but I did find an old white pages listing under "Folk".
